ANSWERS TO YOUR FSA QUESTIONS
Some of you asked for extra FSA information, and we have it. Here are answers to a few questions we’ve received lately.
Q: What’s the easiest way to submit a reimbursement request?
A: From your mobile device, download and use the MyCONEXIS app. Log in with the same username and password as your online account, select Reimbursement Request, and add your eligible expense details. Then take a photo of your supporting documentation and submit it through the app. You’ll submit a claim in a matter of moments.

Q: Why isn’t over-the-counter (OTC) medicine an eligible expense?
A: It is when prescribed by a licensed physician. A few years ago, health care reform changes affected health FSAs, including the eligibility of OTC medicines. IRS rules allow OTC medicines and drugs to be eligible expenses when prescribed by a doctor before you purchase them. You can either give a written or electronic prescription to a pharmacist who will issue the OTC medicine as a prescription drug, or submit the doctor’s prescription and itemized receipt to us when you file a claim.
Q: Are OTC health care supplies eligible for reimbursement?
A: Yes, many of them are. You can use health FSA funds to pay for a thermometer, a blood pressure monitor, hearing aid batteries, bandages, and much more.
Q: Are vitamins an eligible health FSA expense?
A: That depends. If you’re taking vitamins for your general well-being, then no, they’re not covered under an FSA. However, if your doctor asks you to take vitamins or supplements to treat or prevent a diagnosed medical condition (such as taking an iron supplement to prevent anemia), then yes, vitamins can be an eligible expense if your doctor completes a Medical Determination Form. Find this form in your online account, and once completed by your doctor, submit it along with your reimbursement request.
Tip: Use the MyCONEXIS app to submit your claim. Just take a photo of your Medical Determination Form and another photo of the itemized receipt.

Q: Where can I find CONEXIS contact information?
A: Log in to your online account, and from the home page, click the Message Center tab. That’s where you’ll find our toll-free customer service number, claims address, and claims fax number. Or if you prefer, you can log in and send a support request through the Message Center.
Q: Do you have other FSA questions that we didn’t answer above?
A: If so, please review our FAQs and see if you can find the answers there. You can also send us your question through the Message Center in your online account.

TUNING IN TO YOUR HEARING
If you’re frequently around bursts of loud noise or repeated exposure to loud noise — at work, home, or play — it may be harming your hearing.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, sounds at or above 85 decibels can damage the sensitive structures in the inner ear and cause noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). And once damaged, there’s no repair.
The good news is NIHL is completely preventable. Just follow these tips to help protect your hearing:
•  Learn which noises can be harmful such as blow-dryers; food processors and blenders; power motors and tools; subways and heavy traffic sounds; loud music; and firecrackers and firearms.
•  Be alert to harmful noises around you.
•  Protect your ears when involved in a loud activity.
•  Protect the ears of children who are too young to protect their own.
•  If you can’t reduce the noise or protect yourself from it, move away from it.
•  See a doctor if you think you’ve experienced hearing loss.
Another great tip: Your health FSA dollars can be used toward hearing exams, hearing aids, hearing aid batteries, and other eligible expenses you may have. Your FSA funds may also be used for ear plugs if your doctor determines ear plugs can help in treating a diagnosed medical condition. If so, have your doctor complete a Medical Determination Form (just print one out from your online account). Then submit the form along with your reimbursement request and supporting documentation.
